A crown, also referred to as a “cap,” is designed to cover the remaining portion of a tooth, providing strength and restoring its natural shape and contour. At Excel Dental Care, crowns and onlays (partial crowns) serve as durable, long-lasting solutions for tooth repair. They are often the ideal choice for rebuilding a tooth that has suffered damage, decay, or extensive fillings. Crowns may also enhance the appearance of a heavily filled tooth.
The process begins with the numbing of the tooth and reshaping it to accommodate the crown. We then take impressions or utilize a scan of your teeth, creating a temporary covering for your tooth. This information is transmitted to our dental laboratories, often accompanied by photographs that provide detailed instructions for crafting your custom crown.
During your subsequent visit, the crown is tested for fit, appearance, and bite. If both you and your dentist are satisfied with these aspects, the crown is cemented or bonded in place. If significant adjustments are needed, the crown is sent back to the laboratory and fitted during a subsequent appointment.
Crowns can be crafted from various materials, including metal, porcelain, gold, or a combination of these. For the most natural-looking results, porcelain crowns are often preferred. We encourage you to discuss your options with your dentist to determine which type best suits your individual needs.
